About Blackcarat's Diamonds...

We take great care in selecting our diamonds from a ‘conflict-free’ source, making sure they conform to the Kimberly Process (a recognised means of guaranteeing a conflict-free diamond).

All our diamonds are certified. The certificate is like a diamond grading report or diamond dossier, stating the diamond’s exact measurements, weight, cut and over quality. We pass the certification on to our customers.

A choice of independent certification

As standard we use SureCert diamonds which are graded by a well-respected laboratory in the UK which recognises the ‘hearts and arrows’ standard of superior diamonds. SureCert is the only UK-based lab that gives you added security by taking high definition microscopic images of every diamond certified. SureCert certification is provided by the expertise of highly skilled diamond graders with years of experience behind them, giving you peace of mind when purchasing our diamonds. As the lab is UK-based prices are lower than their American counterparts.

We also use GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certification by request. The GIA is the largest and most respected lab in the USA; their diamonds are slightly higher priced than our UK SureCert due to import costs.

Peace of mind

Both options provide peace of mind that you are receiving and ‘excellent’ cut of diamond with absolute symmetry and thoroughly uniform ‘hearts and arrows’. The term ‘hearts and arrows cut’ is given to diamonds with Excellent cut grades that show a perfect optical symmetry. When viewed from above, the ‘crown’ pattern is a series of eight arrowheads. From below the ‘pavilion’ pattern appears as eight heart shapes. This much sought after characteristic is only seen in the highest grade of diamonds. To be able to see this symmetrical pattern, hearts and arrows viewers are used to eliminate incoming light from certain angles and cause the pattern to appear in UV light.

Please refer to our A-Z Glossary for more information about the 4Cs of diamonds – cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.
